Its a joke that the ONLY way to take screenshots unrooted is via an SDK and while attached to the PC... oh goody.. lets haul around that PC! Tongue

even my blackberry at OS4.5 had some limited options, but that's a pretty old OS now and I did find an app, this is Android, its supposed to be far more superior than ANY OS!!! Tongue (and on the planet's fastest phone, unless Japan or China hasn't come out with something faster by now).

The reason behind making it difficult for an app to take a screenshot is security.  Imagine if an app writer was able to take a screenshot in the background and send it to themselves while say, you were logging into your banking app or website?  It isn't that it can't do it, its that the developers disallow it.  The security hole that was open when we first got our One's that allowed us to have shoot-me work without root initially, is the same hole that was used to gain root.  Think about it...

If that's the case then why do the devs allow us to install 3rd party apps if security threats are that legit? I agree it is a security risk, heck... installing shapewriter could be a security risk... the dev who wrote that app for all we know could be keylogging Tongue (yes I got the warning when installing it outside of the market, btw I hate shapewriter, I want to try swype Sad).

I really hate that you have to use the sdk.  I am by no means the most tech savvy person but this is what i did.
Download sdk and extract to new folder
run the setup and get a fail
force setup
go to tools, ddms
now when it show's devices, nothing, blank
I have debugging on and checked my drivers all fine but still wont be seen?

Any ideas?

No. Every time i connect to computer the only things i check is debugging and disc drive
When i run the sdk setup i have a list of about 15 installed packs but when i go to Virtual devices nothing shows up.

From their if i go back to tools, ddms i get a quick flash of a screen and then nothing again.
Oh yea i have Vista too dont know if that matters

Try going into charge only mode rather than disk drive. I don't think I've done it in disk drive, but I know it's worked in charge only.

What apps are there for screen capture?

Can Android do this out of the box?

Thanks

Shoot Me works unrooted after the 3.29 update.

For 1.5 the only way I know of is with ddms in the Android sdk.  Root is required too.

Well, you're right and wrong there Z.  Kiss    You can do it with the ddms from the Android SDK, but it does not require rooting your phone.  I've done it plenty times with my Hero and works like a charm.  Tongue

Can you elaborate? What is the ddms from the Android SDK?
