Pandora stops playing after screen times out
it will finish the song, but then stops,
if i tough the top "on" button - not even unlocking the screen - it will start up again and continuing to play even after the screen goes dark again.  But after the song i seems to time out again....

This did not happen under 2.1

any idea?
Thanks

I have run into this issue also, but it only happens sometimes not everytime.... also mine has a tendency to switch songs randomly while in the middle of another song...but only happens once or twice per session. Also,  i will have to reload the widget becasue it gets stuck while the program is loading... and i get a FC every once in a while... before 2.2 i had little or no issues with pandora... ive been keeping an eye out for an update put have yet to see one, there hasn't been one since the release of 2.2 as far as i know.

Do you use Advanced Task Killer? If so, go into that program and uncheck Pandora while it is running. Cause more than likely it is "killing" it once the phone turns off. I have noticed that before with my stock music player and did this and it works fine now. If that is not your problem, I am out of ideas at the moment.

Are you using Juice Defender or any app similar that shuts down your wifi or mobile network to save battery life?

My juice defender is set to shut off mobile/wifi if the screen times out...no data no slacker radio

Same thing happened to me as I was using Slacker radio.

friends,
i'm having the same problem  Sad
if the screen times out pandora will play maximum of two songs and then i have to turn the screen back on and unlock to get it to go to the next song. i've noticed that there is a "waiting for connection" or something message on it when i turn the screen on.

I think that the mobile network on my phone just turns off because i don't think my phone syncs and stuff when the screen is off...

help?

Found this at Pandora troubleshoot:

Why am I experiencing audio issues on Froyo?

If you have upgraded to Froyo (Android 2.2), you will experience audio issues while listening to Pandora. The Android team is aware of this issue and is working on a fix.

What should I do if Pandora freezes, lags or crashes frequently?

Most issues with the Pandora app lagging or force-closing are related to the way Android handles memory usage. Android tends to retain info from apps, even when they are not currently in use. Android eventually deletes this info from memory, although you may notice odd behavior in the meantime, especially if you have a lot of apps running on your phone.

Here are some suggestions that may help.

1) The browser can eat up a lot of memory. Try clearing the browser cache. Open the browser and click the "Menu" button -> More -> Settings -> Scroll down and select "Clear

Hey guys. I figured out my problem, let me know if this helps anybody else.

Go to settings... wireless and networks... mobile networks... and make sure that "enable always on" is checked.

You can also set your screen to never timeout.

You can also set your screen to never timeout.

Just be warned that your battery will drain pretty fast that way.
Streaming Pandora will drain your battery quickly, however, I suppose one has to decide what they want...if Pandora stops playing because the screen times out, then they either need to leave the screen on and deal with the battery (stay near an outlet, carry an extra battery) or they decide that continuously listening to Pandora is not important and they let the screen timeout and then restart Pandora each time. Personally, I would like to have my songs play from start to finish. Perhaps, that's just me.

I have the problem of it randomly switch songs too. Has paused on me occasionally.. not sure if its due to screen timing out.  No ATK or power management app. I do have gauge battery and lookout but doubt they r causing the issues.   low signal strength at my work building may be the culprit..

I have the same problem, completely stock Android 2.2 inspire, no power savers/task killers installed.  I know I am not losing reception, even though that is the message on the screen when I touch the power button.  Hence, I think it is related to the phone shutting down data connection when it perceives it is not in use, and the suggestion to force it always on makes sense.

No, one does not have to decide whether o keep the screen on.  Just use the correct settings and Pandora plays after the screen timeout.  I do it all the time.  I don't find that Pandora is a particularly power hungry app.  If I think of it, I'll benchmark how much CPU it uses when I use it.

As for switching songs part way through, I suspect, but cannot prove that that it is due to a temporary loss of the stream that Pandora can't resume from.
