Actually had this happen to me after the first time I played with the Maps app, and since then I won't touch it because of this.

Try this: hit menu>settings>applications>manage applications, then hit the all tab and scroll down till you see Maps. Tap it and then hit "Force stop" in the upper left hand corner.

After doing this, I'd power cycle your phone so the battery stats reset and then monitor it a bit. Maps shouldn't pop up again unless you actually open it.

Best I can figure is it's glitchy and sometimes doesn't close/exit properly, and just keeps on running in the background like you're actively using it in the foreground.

Stocks you just need to go into menu>settings>accounts & sync and click on stocks. Either set it to not automatically sync, or change the sync frequency to lower battery use. Voicemail can actually use a decent bit of power if you use it fairly often I've noticed. So that may be legit depending on your use of it.

Going to move this on over to the Apps section since it's an issue with apps and how they're behaving. Smiley

If you are using Latitude it will use maps as well. I just checked mine and it was still running even though I have gps turned off. You can go to Settings/Applications/Running Services and turn it off by touching it, and you can also go to the Manage Apps and turn it off by tapping force stop under downloaded/running. It will be under downloaded as well if you downloaded the update. Best way I can see to solve that issue. As far as the voicemail and stocks, the only thing I can suggest is turning them off in your settings but I'm sure there is a better solution then that.
